Go walking through the dairy aisle of your local grocery store, and you might just find "breakfast yogurt" rated for toddlers. Generally organic, it's a costly item considering the ratio of yogurt to fruit and cereal. If you're looking for a thrifty way to provide your baby with a filling breakfast, while supplying them with live cultures of yogurt, this recipe is most likely for you.
You need:
1/4 cup Yogurt (preferably organic vanilla)
1/4 cup Oatmeal Cereal (Gerber, or your own)
Your Choice of Fruit
Water
There's no need to add any type of sweetener. Make sure to check the sugar content on the yogurt you are using, and be sure to pick something you are comfortable with. If you'd rather, you may use plain yogurt and add something sweet. However, be careful not to use honey for children under 2 years of age.
First, mix your oatmeal with at least a TBSP of cold water, add more for desired consistency. Mix well, and add yogurt; mixing well again. When adding your fruit, be sure to use diced pieces for safer consumption. Strawberries and bananas are our favorite! Include your fruit, and feed baby! It's that easy.
