Piggy Paint in Review: Nail Polish for Baby

Having a little girl means dressing her up, having fun with bows and hair, and even painting those adorably cute little fingernails. While being real girly may not be for everyone (including myself), I did a lot of searching when I read about Piggy Paint, and it's promise of being as "Natural as Mud".

When I finally found a store that carried this polish I had to get a few bottles (they are available in a 2-pack at select Walmart locations). I chose a lilac and glitter combo, which came in .5 oz bottles. While I wasn't impressed with the size of the product, you do have to take into consideration the size of a baby's nails. Since they're quite tiny .5 oz might last quite a bit longer than it would for me (so I quickly forgot the idea of trying it on my own).

At the first opportunity I decided to try the Piggy Paint out on her toe nails, especially since she couldn't reach them to her mouth yet. My first impression was how easy it was to apply and spread, as well as the fact that it didn't have the distinct chemical smell of most polishes. Although the bottle said to dry with a dryer, I just dried them the old fashioned way. However, I wouldn't recommend this, as the polish seemed to come off rather easily and dry to a powdery finish. I haven't attempted to dry it with a dryer yet (it's hard enough to get an 8 month old to hold still to paint her nails), but I'd guess it would dry to a better, stronger finish with this technique.

After painting them a few times with the lilac I decided to paint the clear, glitter on top. It isn't an overbearing glitter, just gray, shiny flecks in a see-through paint. It spread rather well for a textured application, and I was really happy with the results. It seemed to dry to a better finish than the opaque purple, and stayed on longer (maybe the other needed a topcoat?).

So, if you're looking to add the finishing touch to your little one's feet, Piggy Paint would be a great selection. It's non-toxic, doesn't emit a bad smell and was fun to apply. For the next day or so, you can also find it on sale through Zulily in packs of 3 at a large discount. Hop on over to give it a try!
