I have always been proud to say I've only experienced heartburn once in my life. I think I was sick with the flu, and my system was really screwed up. My husband has really bad heartburn whenever he eats anything, and I've always been thankful (and a little annoying to him), that I never had this problem. Let me just say, heartburn is not everything it's cracked up to be, or like I remember.
The past three days have been misery, especially around bedtime. I'm all ready to snuggle under the covers and then, out of nowhere, BAM! All I feel is acid from my stomach to my throat. It isn't like the burning sensation I expected but more of a warm, filled to the brim with acid, feeling. This is the first time in 5 months I have had any heartburn throughout my pregnancy, and nothing seems to sooth it either.
Besides being unable to get comfortable due to my heartburn, I'm also having troubles with dry skin on my tummy. It started out as a tingly feeling, like when your hair stands on end, and has turned into flaky, dry, and painfully itchy, especially in the navel area. I have been able to tolerate it thus far, and the one day I forgot to throw my travel sized lotion back into my bag, it returns with a vengeance. For the past thirty minutes I have been scratching at it, hoping it would go away. So, I hop on the internet, do a little Google searching, only to find that most women are convinced scratching it causes stretch marks. That seems a little far fetched to me, but I'm hoping they're wrong.
Now, if I can only get past the nasal drainage I've been dealing with for the past 10 weeks, I'd feel a little bit more positive towards everything. With the increase in estrogen, unwarranted fluctuation of heartburn and unfair need to scratch, I feel like I'm losing a downhill battle. But, I'm halfway, that has to be good for something, right?
