Baby Center has tons of forums for new moms and those who have been there done that, and you can find several boards where women are expressing concern and interest as to why they experienced shivering and teeth chattering during labor. While many attributed it to the IV or their epidural, it's actually something most women go through as their body's natural reaction to labor. Perhaps you went through this while having your baby.
Trembling, shaking, shivering and chattering are all signs of the transition phase of labor; nausea and vomiting are also signals. This is the portions where contractions become long and close together, generally allowing 30 seconds to rest between contractions. Transition is the point in labor where women begin to feel the most needy, and as if they "can't do it", and many women ask for medication (I know I did at this point!).
Many ladies who have planned a natural birth since they found out they were pregnant, often have their plans squashed by this point in labor. Whether they were induced or not, getting the chills so bad you convulse during labor, or even vomit, is enough to scare someone into asking for pain medication. You should never feel bad for not having the labor you wanted, or feel like a failure. The point of pregnancy and labor is to come out of it with a healthy baby. If that's what you receive, there's no need to let yourself feel guilty.
