There's been a lot of buzz lately across the pond, concerning the birth of Prince George (who remained nameless until about half an hour ago). William and Kate welcomed their baby boy after a natural delivery, and then showed him off a few days later to a number of photographers and journalists who'd waited days for the first glimpse. And while the Duchess of Cambridge was glowing aside her husband, cradling their latest addition, there have been several comments thrown around regarding the fact that Kate "still looks pregnant" (stirring a few mothers to action on Twitter with #mummytummy)
The idea of looking fabulous right after birth is simply a myth. For nine months your body has accumulated water and fat to carry that bundle of joy to term. It is no surprise then, that the Duchess of Cambridge is still sporting a bit of a tummy just a few days after giving birth - I've had personal experience with this. The fact that she waltzed out of that hospital looking as gorgeous as she did, was nothing short of a miracle.
For all of those first time Moms to be, don't be disappointed when it takes a few weeks to lose the water you've been retaining. Ladies with Toxemia will notice a shocking transition when their pants fit over their once swollen legs after you've peed gallons and gallons of liquids (TMI? It's the truth). Know that your sporty IV and previous retention both contributed to any extra bloating that make you look a little less appealing during that walk from hospital to car ride home.
And once everyone gets past the stage of picking on this new royal mother, they'll come to realize how beautiful this baby is. All of us Mothers, new and old, can certainly agree it's a joy to see a brand new human being be born to such a loving couple. I just want to take a moment to congratulate not only Prince William, Kate and little Prince George, but Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Prince Harry and Kate's family as well. Enjoy your newest family member during this beautiful moment.
