Natural Delivery and Packing List

I'm not crazy, but I plan on having a natural birth. That's generally what I feel like saying when people ask me on how I plan to deliver. The second thing that comes to mind is, why do you care? Yes, I plan on going natural, and although it scares me to death, I feel it's what is best for me and the baby. Just go back to the Bible. God made man, God made woman from man, God did not give woman epidurals or spinals after she ate the fruit, yet Cain and Able were born just fine.

It's the same feeling when everyone tries to persuade me into taking breastfeeding classes... again, why are you pushing me into something when I am having the baby? Regardless, I feel that a woman's body was created to do these things, and before "modern medicine" women breastfed babies without an aid. Call me crazy, you won't be the first.

I love Baby Center's Natural Childbirth article, and it scares me to think of all the extras you might have to go through when you get an epidural. Sure, for the majority of women most everything goes fine. But I don't want to take that chance. Which, is why, I was so happy when it just so happened to work out that I got a midwife as opposed to a doctor. That's not to say some doctors aren't great, I just prefer alternative medicine versus everything created by man.

There are a few things to help get the nurses and staff at the hospital on your side and everyone into the swing of things once it's baby time. Here's a rather helpful list. In short, you need to take toiletries along for yourself, as well as a couple of changes of clothes for you and hubby and baby. They don't recommend bringing your supply of diapers to the hospital, mostly because they will supply them during your visit. A pair of flip flops you can toss afterward, for strolling the halls, soothing music, a camera or video camera with plenty of space on a memory card, and rechargeable batteries (don't forget the charger!). A few women noted that disposable panties were nice... I am guessing that's because of the discharge when you wear maxi pads, but I'm not certain. What helped while you were staying in the hospital?
